BSG Posters

Thursday, December 11, 2008, 12:26am
design, battlestar galactica

Join the battle against Cylon tyranny! Show your true colors and support the cause by displaying these posters in the common areas of your ship. Officially sanctioned by Fleet Operations, each poster contains critical messages from the Colonial Ministry of Information that will help recruit, inspire and inform your fellow Colonial citizens.

I'd never buy these, but I love how well designed they are.

Fancy New Bed

Saturday, September 6, 2008, 3:48pm
me, Dad, Allie, design

Allie and I found (on craigslist) Room & Board's Portica Canopy bed being sold for $500 (regularly $1300). I asked my Dad if we could use his truck, instead he offered to drive (probably because he doesn't trust me to drive it) so the other night, we picked it up in Greenpoint and tied it to the roof of his truck. (Thanks, Dad!)

While I would prefer the Architecture bed, for $800 off for a very similar bed that Allie has been drooling over for the past few years, I can't complain. Well, I can. The bedroom is small and the large, canopy thing makes it that much smaller. However, the bed it replaced was a cheap, hundred dollar futon frame, so it's a step up.

Now I just need to find some better lighting in there since the canopy portion doesn't work with the cheap, ten dollar lighting that was in there previously.

More White, Minimalist Stuff I Want To Buy

Friday, July 4, 2008, 7:51am
design, plus minus zero

Plus Minus Zero, the Japanese company co-founded by the master of minimal design Naoto Fukasawa, just released its fifth collection. Consisting of a table clock, a thermometer, a timer, a card case, a fan and an electric water kettle, the latest exudes a sense of austerity that, somehow, only Japanese design achieves.

...

"A long time ago, the corners of wooden furniture and fixtures were not rounded; the corners were planed off, and this "chamfering" relaxed any excessive sharpness. Since the size of this chamfering translated into an R of 2.5mm, 2.5R is a roundness of the corners that feels comfortable to the touch."

Awesome Poster Comparing Each UN Member's Contribution To The War On Terror

Monday, May 26, 2008, 10:25am
war on terror, United Nations, design, infoporn

A_B_... is a geopolitical survey of the 192 member states of the United Nations with regard to the quantitative degree to which each contributes to peace and terror in the world. The project is a dual-sided poster where the A_ side displays measures of peace, while the B_ side, measures of terror. For each of the A_B_ measures, the graph is divided into 3 rings (3 separate indexes for peace and 3 separate indexes for terror) that are themselves individual quantitative measures obtained from researchers working in the field of geopolitics. The quantitative variation for the peace and terror measures is represented as variation in line thickness: thin line=low value, thick line=high value.

IKEA 2008 Sneak Peek

Thursday, December 13, 2007, 5:47pm
design, ikea

We got an early look at the Spring 2008 IKEA product catalog, and it looks like they're going back to basics.

I like the bucket light, but not enough to want to see it every day. The wheely thing over bed would be great.

Muji Opens In New York

Friday, November 9, 2007, 11:26am
muji, design

For you New Yorkers who have been sneaking into the Moma store to get your Japanese minimalist design fixes or stocking up when abroad, your time has come. The full-blown Muji experience is opening in New York on Friday, 16 November 2007, in Soho. For many this will be a dream come true. For others it will be a new adventure into the land of beautifully functional sleek clothes, furniture and accessories, which have no brand but can only have come from one store.

Who knew such joy could be found in small transparent acrylic boxes, colorful pencils, beige notebooks, chic flip flops and modular storage units? For the extra-eager there will be a free giveaway to the first five hundred customers who come to the store and shop on the opening day.

So much overly designed crap, I love it.
