It really doesn't bother me if someone mentions Christmas to me even though I consider myself to be none of the above when it comes to religion and subsequently the holidays. I think to each his/her own is fine. There's tons of different belief systems and forcing everyone in the country to acknowledge yours is just plain stupid. Happy Holidays is just a way to wish someone well during this time of year without getting into the entire religion thing.
However, it seems many Christians are angered and upset by the fact that many stores are opting to use phrases like Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. The very fact that someone is acknowledging that the entire country/world isn't Christian and might celebrate some other holiday aside from Christmas pisses them off to no end. How dare someone else believe in a different invisble guy and the audacity of these merchants to recognize that!
I don't believe most people who aren't Christian are offended by the words Merry Christmas. I think those people are nuts. I think you are crazy if you're offended by the words Merry Christmas.
I agree. As I stated before, I don't mind if someone mentions Christmas to me. Jon Stewart agrees as well:
I actually agree with that. I think they're just words - Merry Christmas. I think it's innocuous. I don't think there's, really, any way that a sane person could be offended by a silly two-word phrase. You know what Mr. O'Reilly? You're a reasonable man.
However, O'Reilly's guest then states that the phrases Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays, do not offend Christians, to which O'Reilly responds:
Yes, it does. It absolutely does.
Does any one see anything wrong with this picture?
And to top it off, people are even offended that the official White House holiday card doesn't say Merry Christmas either. The nerve of the president, not mentioning one specific religion. What the hell does he think we are supposed to be, a secular nation?
To this entire mess, I have one thing to say, fuck Christmas.
